Artist Biography Highlights
Cherie Peters is a mixed media and encaustic artist based in southern Missouri. Influenced by the natural landscapes of the Gulf Coast and Lake of the Ozarks, her work reflects a deep connection to place, memory, and transformation. A former K–12 art educator, Peters’ artistic development has been shaped by both teaching and a lifelong exploration of material processes. Her transition into encaustic and mixed media allowed her to move beyond traditional painting into dimensional, tactile work that integrates driftwood, fiber, and found objects. Her practice is also informed by her work as a mental health coach, where creativity serves as a pathway for reflection and healing.

Artist Statement
My current work explores the intersection of painting and sculpture through encaustic and mixed media processes. Using beeswax, resin, and heat, I build layered surfaces that embed natural and found materials—driftwood, fiber, paper, and industrial remnants. These materials carry their own histories, which I respond to intuitively as I construct vessel forms and textured assemblages.

I am drawn to the tension between fragility and strength, containment and release. Vessels appear frequently in my work as metaphors for the human experience—holding memory, emotion, and transformation. Through layering, burning in, and reworking surfaces, I allow each piece to evolve organically, embracing unpredictability as part of the process. My work exists in a space between control and surrender, where material and meaning emerge together.
