Lowell was founded as a trading post on the south bank of the Grand River in 1831 by Daniel Marsac. In 1847, he purchased land on the north side of the river and platted it as "Dansville". In 1851, a post office was established there named "Lowell" after the township.
LowellArts is made up of arts enthusiasts who are committed to the mission of connecting artists and audiences through the visual and performing arts. In the coming years, the staff, volunteers, and supporters will continue to make exceptional, heartfelt efforts to bring exciting artwork and performances the community.
A vibrant art scene and eclectic shopping district add character and charm to this largely rural city 20 minutes east of Grand Rapids. Historic downtown Lowell spans six city blocks alongside the scenic Flat River, close to numerous parks, lakes and golf courses.
From fast food to fine dining, Lowell offers a range of culinary experiences. Favorites include Flat River Grill, offering traditional favorites with creative flair; Keiser’s Kitchen, a classic family-style diner; and Mynt Fusion Bistro, boasting made-from-scratch Pan-Asian fare.
