My medium preserves a hint of the ancient art of needlepoint and makes it relevant to today’s collectors of contemporary abstract fiber art. Each finished piece of art communicates its unique story by allowing traditional needlepoint stitching, textiles, canvas, natural fibers, and paint to live on the same canvas.
When I describe my finished pieces as "needlepoint" I stretch that term and dare to call it that which might not be acceptable by traditional needlepoint aficionados and competition judges. But my goal is not to showcase perfect stitches. I'm much more interested in experimenting with ways to integrate needlepoint into compelling contemporary textile art and having the viewer appreciate the design of the piece, which happens to include needlepoint.
