In existence since 1991, ISEA is a group of contemporary experimental artists that holds annual art exhibits across the US and internationally.
The purpose of this website is to keep you informed about our art exhibit activities.
In 1991 Maxine Masterfield and Grace Hegeman founded ISEA. Maxine is a nationally known artist, teacher and author.

Artists working in an experimental manner need a society where they can share ideas and techniques - both old and new and encourage the development of new talents and skills. There is a need to connect, encourage, inform and promote artists who create art by experimentation and exploration. We need new ways to make statements through our art and provide a forum to exhibit our work.
Our logo is an abstraction of a Nautilus Shell. It symbolizes growth, persistance, beauty and grace.
Since 1991 ISEA has had over 500 members. Current membership is usually 300 members and always growing. Innovative artists from around the world are welcome.
ISEA has held juried annual exhibits since 1991 - more information is available on our Exhibit History page. Annual exhibits feature a well known professional artist as juror, workshops and demonstrations by top experimental artists, tours and activities that showcase the exhibit host location. Exhibit Host locations change each year with a local President and Exhibit Chairperson organizing the exhibit at a leading local museum, art or cultural center. Prize money tops $3,000 each year and a full color print catalog features images of award winners and all exhibited art works.
We welcome and encourage all interested artists working in an experimental manner to join ISEA!
We welcome artists to volunteer to host exhibits in your area. Contact us for more information. Exhibits are planned several years in advance and we welcome your suggestions.

Membership payment is due annually on January 1st. Dues paid January 1st though March 31st are $40.00 and April 1st and later are $45.00. Reminders are posted in the ISEA newsletter and the annual exhibit propectus. Your bank records are your receipt.
